About Me

Content Consultant and Problem Solver

If only “problem solver” was a job title!

But content has been a great way to get me into companies where I can solve problems.

Currently my focus is on developing content standards, authoring style guides, seeking alignment on content consistency across teams and platforms, and encouraging companies to think about content governance, not just MVP content delivery. It’s great when I can come into a startup and implement these things early, but it’s surprising how many larger companies still need this.

The early part of my career was spent explaining complicated topics (like technology or medical information) in easy-to-understand language. I still retain that “beginner mind” when I’m designing and strategizing content today. I abhor jargon.

No matter what you hire me for, I guarantee I will highlight issues, suggest process improvements, and bring you ideas to leave your company a better place than I found it.

Nice Things People Said

Charlene is a top notch writer and editor, but that’s no surprise looking at her experience and recommendations. What surprised me was her ability to investigate, find problems, and bring ideas to the table. She has a natural ability to see the big picture and find unexpected ways to bring everything up a level. From process improvements to writing consistency to format and structure, she’s able to see everything as it could be and refine deeper content strategy and content governance.

Charlene is an excellent editor with an unmatched attention to detail. When I send a project her way, I know I will receive the highest-quality work delivered on time, every time. Charlene’s keen eye combined with her willingness to comment on global, macro issues within a manuscript make her an ideal partner for any project, big or small.

Charlene started off by writing software user guides, but we’ve found that one of her superpowers is being the voice of TEN7. She now ghostwrites our blog posts, newsletters, case studies and also edits our podcast transcripts. She has the gift for “skillful capture” when interviewing people, noting and following the details that make a good story. She’s also helped give us a consistent social media presence, and she’s nailed the voice we were hoping for: friendly, clear, smart, and a little sassy when appropriate. Charlene now writes the bulk of TEN7’s marketing content, and I trust her to know my voice. It’s possible that she wrote the bulk of this recommendation.
Ivan Stegic, CEO and Founder, TEN7 Interactive

Charlene and I worked together on a massive content audit of a client’s site. She is professional, very creative, and brought an amazing energy to the group. Really enjoyed working with her, and hope to do so again in the future.
